About Me

A little about who I am, and how I work

Hello and welcome. I’m Sarah MacFarlane, a professionally qualified and accredited therapist (MBACP, GMBPsS) based in Worcester. I work with individuals, couples, and teens both in person and online—supporting clients across the UK and internationally.

I bring a warm, non-judgmental, and grounded presence to therapy. My aim is always to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported—no matter what you’re bringing into the room.

Over the years, I’ve studied extensively in the fields of psychology and counselling. I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, along with multiple First Class Honours degrees and postgraduate qualifications in both psychology and education. I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), and I’m also accredited with the  (HPCSA).

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals and Couples (EFT & EFIT – Externship completed)

  • Gottman Method for Couples (Level 1 & 2, plus training in trauma and affairs)

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • EFT Tapping

  • CBT for Trauma

I integrate these approaches into therapy depending on your needs and goals—drawing from evidence-based modalities to support you in the most effective and meaningful way.

My Journey

Though I was born in the UK, I spent much of my childhood in South Africa, surrounded by the beauty and rawness of its landscapes and cultures. Those early experiences shaped my view of the world and continue to influence my work today—with a deep respect for human complexity, resilience, and cultural identity.

After completing my Qualifications (PHD) in Organisational Psychology, I returned to the UK and spent several years working in London as a Compliance Officer in the corporate sector. But it wasn’t long before I felt the pull toward more meaningful, human-focused work. I returned to my studies and have since built a career in counselling and psychology—working with charities, the NHS, and now in my own thriving private practice.

How I Work

Clients describe me as warm, insightful, and down-to-earth. I won’t sit in silence or offer surface-level advice—I show up fully, with empathy and professionalism, and I work collaboratively with you to help you create meaningful change.

Whether you're struggling with trauma, anxiety, low self-worth, burnout, or relationship challenges, I bring a depth of training and a tailored approach to every session. I’m qualified to work with both teens and adults, and I adjust the work to meet you where you are—with respect, curiosity, and care.
